LACMA Installs 140th President, Troy Elander, MD

On June 30th, the Los Angeles County Medical Association installed Troy Elander, MD as the 140th President. Approximately 200 guests gathered at the beautiful Bel-Air Bay Club to honor the outgoing President, George Ma, MD and welcome Dr. Elander as the 2011-2012 President.

Honors from various state legislators were presented to Dr. Ma and Dr. Elander during the installation ceremony. Warren Bennis, Ph.D, University Professor and Distinguished Professor of Business Administration and Founding Chairman, The Leadership Institute, USC, presided as the keynote speaker. In addition, LACMA installed the 2010-2012 officer as follows: Sam Fink, MD President-Elect, Marshall Morgan, MD Treasurer, and Pedram Salimpour, MD Secretary.

Dr. Elander addressed guests with his welcoming remarks outlining his goals for LACMA as the 2011 and 2012 President. Membership and the formation of several committees were highlighted as top priorities for the association’s development in the coming year.

Dr. Troy Elander is an ophthalmologist in private practice in Santa Monica. He was born in San Francisco during his father’s ophthalmology residency and was raised in Los Angeles. He attended Williams College in Massachusetts where he earned Phi Beta Kappa and Magna cum laude honors. He then went to Cornell Medical School in New York, followed by an ophthalmology residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York and a corneal fellowship at Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. Dr. Elander returned to Los Angeles in 1990 to work alongside his father in private practice in Santa Monica. While building his practice in his early years, he worked extensively throughout LA County- from UCLA to West Hills, Verdugo Hills, South Central, for Health Care Partners in Downtown and Montebello, and Glendale.
